Meet Our Board of Directors
Karen Adelsberger, President, Karen has led EOPCC since 2007 and has served as valued Board Member since 2004. Karen's life has been dedicated to her children and to the children of others. An educator since 1972, Karen has supported and helped shape the commitment of Emmitsburg Osteopathic Primary Care Center, Inc. to medical education at all levels of learning. A lifelong citizen of Emmitsburg, Karen Warthen Adelsberger graduated St. Joseph College here in Emmitsburg. Karen found her true love, an Emmitsburg Mount St. Mary's College graduate, Ed Aldelsberger. Both dedicated their lives to special needs students. Even when Ed's brain cancer was under treatment, Karen supported Ed as he went to his special kids until his body no longer let him. Loving mother of four, Karen brings compassion and wisdom and insight to EOPCC.
Mary Kate Birge, SSJ, PhD, in New Testament, Associate Professor, Dept of Theology at Mount St. Mary’s University. Mary Kate is our Treasurer. Mary Kate is a can do person and provided much of the catering for our very successful wine tasting fund raiser.
Linda Kelley-Junker, Director of Institutional Research at Mount St. Mary’s has been a part of the EOPCC Board since the birth of the Non-Profit and has been a major guiding force. Linda, with her Master’s in Business, served as our treasurer until 2005 and has since served as our volunteer bookkeeper. Every non-profit organization needs to file a detailed 990 with the Federal government. The hours and bookkeeping detail and the coordination of information make such demands that Hercules would rather clean the Aegean stables than complete a 990. We so appreciate the 10 years of 990’s that Linda has accomplished!
Catherine Bodin, PhD , teaches at McDaniel University in the language department, has spent much of her non-academic time organizing fundraisers for EOPCC. Thanks to her very creative mind and dedication, we had paid down enough on our initial Phase I loan to qualify for our Phase II loan.
Melissa Wetzel, CPA, has a special interest in non-profit accounting. Melissa is very busy with her own practice at 301 West Main Street in Emmitsburg. Melissa still takes time to guide us though the hard questions, net working with our accounting firm to keep our 990 accurate and up to date. Melissa does thorough work and makes it easy to pay your taxes accurately. I know because she is my accountant. Yes, she is taking new clients.
Millie Vauthrin, RN, has just retired from 43 years of nursing, including teaching nursing and service in the military as well as Mount St. Mary’s University, Wellness Center. Millie has a generous heart and finds it much easier to give that to ask. When we had our bake sale that raised over $700 over 2 days, Millie was there smiling and greeting every customer as a long lost friend. Indeed, some of them were long lost friends. Millie works storm or heat wave always with a smile. Her baking is to die for.
Elizabeth Myers (Beth), is a school counselor at Thurmont Elementary. Beth has recently joined the EOPCC board where she is undaunted regardless of impossible tasks.
Beth’s enthusiasm is quite contagious. Beth is not afraid of hard work and has helped us with many EOPCC fundraisers in the past. Beth was a board member for the Catoctin Community Medical Fund and is currently a board member of the Seton Center.
Kim Gore, full time student, takes time from her intense science classes in training for a career in radiology technology. Kim was a home inspector preparing homes and offices for sale. I hear she was tough. Kim previously served on the board of the Emmitsburg Business and Professional Association and pulled off a fund raiser dance that allowed the EBPA to give a sizable donation to a needy non-profit.
