THERE IS A NEW HELMET LAW IN THE TOWN OF EMMITSBURG – STAY SAFE AND AVOID A FINE!!!

The Mount has recently become aware of the adoption of a helmet law in the corporate limits of the Town of Emmitsburg.  On November 16, 2009, the Town of Emmitsburg adopted a helmet law requiring that all persons who use or ride upon as an operator or a passenger, a bicycleskate boardscooter or roller skates within the corporate limits of the town of Emmitsburg must wear an approved helmet.  The helmet law is intended to improve the safety of children and adults riding in the Town by reducing the incidence of serious head injuries from accidents involving bicyclists, skate boarders, and scooter or roller skate users.

The Town of Emmitsburg and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department has asked the office to pass information regarding the new Town helmet law on to our patients and staff who may otherwise inadvertently violate the Town’s new law and as a consequence put themselves at risk receiving a citation and fine or, even worse, risk being injured in a accident while not wearing a helmet.

Violations of the Emmitsburg helmet law can result in the issuance of a Town citation and a fine of twenty-five dollars ($25).
