Dr. Bonita Krempel-Portier, D.O. (aka: Dr. Portier)

A 1991 graduate of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and focuses on primary care in Internal medicine. In 1993, Dr. Portier completed a rotating osteopathic internship at Clarion Hospital, located in Clarion, PA for her general practitioner-ship. In 1995 she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center, Baltimore, MD. Since that time, Dr. Portier has practiced Primary Care medicine in the Emmitsburg and Thurmont areas. Prior to studying medicine, Dr. Portier had three children (Phil, Thea and Laura), was a high school teacher, worked with insurance claims and has a background in social work. Dr. Portier is married to William L. Portier PhD, (the other Dr. Portier) who holds the Mary Ann Spearan Chair of Theology at the University of Dayton, OH. In 2005, Dr. Portier was awarded the Grand Prize donation in the Ivory Gift of A Gentle Touch Contest. Dr. Portier was named the 2006-2007 Maryland Osteopathic Physician of the Year by the Maryland Association of Osteopathic Physicians. She is our award winning osteopathic physician and educator and author of our "Miracle on Main Street."

Clifford Sweeney, Chair, Board of Directors

Vice-President of Emmitsburg Board of Commissioners, Town of Emmitsburg. President, Lions Club of Emmitsburg. Past President and current Membership Chair, Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Parish, Emmitsburg. A native of Emmitsburg, Cliff is known as a dynamo volunteer in many towns and regional organizations, including St. Joseph's Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Mary Kate Birge, SSJ, PhD; Treasurer

A Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield, MA. She holds a Ph.D. (With Distinction) in Biblical Studies from The Catholic University of America (2001), and is an Associate Professor of Theology at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. She became a board member in the Spring of 2009.

Catherine Bodin, PhD; Recording Secretary

A professor of French and Spanish employed at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. Past editor of Linguistica Atlantica, Past President of the Alliance Francaise of Frederick, MD. She works on a variety of medieval and post-medieval topics in French linguistics.

Linda J. Sites, Founding Member, MBA; EOPCC Bookkeeper

The Director of Institutional Research at Mount St. Mary’s and has been a part of the EOPCC Board since its inception. Linda has been a major guiding force of the organization. She has a Master’s degree in Business, had served as our treasurer until 2005, and has since served as our volunteer bookkeeper.

Melissa Wetzel, C.P.A., P.C.; Non-Officer Board Member, Event Coordinator

Accountant in practice, Emmitsburg, MD. Melissa graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s College of Emmitsburg in 1999 and then continued to become a Certified Public Accountant in 2003. Melissa employs several local people at her office on 301 West Main Street. She handles individual and small business tax returns, prepares monthly write-ups for businesses, engages in tax consulting for individuals and small businesses, prepares payroll for local businesses, and has a notary license. As a board member of EOPCC, she is involved in finalizing tax return preparation, preparing the Personal Property Return, and volunteering at most events.

Paula Fish, Non-Officer Board Member

Past Principal and educator in the Pennsylvania public and parochial school systems before retirement from St. Peter’s School in Elizabethtown. In retirement, she corrected state tests and served as Education Coordinator for Rural Opportunity as well as a relief principal. She now lives in Maryland and volunteers in the Emmitsburg community.
