Dr. Bonita Krempel-Portier, D.O. is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who has devoted her career to providing compassionate, patient-centered primary care to individuals and families throughout the Emmitsburg and Thurmont communities. With decades of experience in rural healthcare, Dr. Portier focuses on whole-person wellness through the principles of osteopathic medicine and long-term patient relationships.
Education & Medical Training
Dr. Portier graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. She completed a rotating osteopathic internship at Clarion Hospital in Clarion, Pennsylvania in 1993 before completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, Maryland in 1995.
She is board certified in Internal Medicine and has practiced primary care medicine in the Emmitsburg and Thurmont areas for many years, serving generations of patients with a strong commitment to community-based healthcare.
Professional & Personal Background
Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Portier was the mother of three children — Phil, Thea, and Laura — while also working as a high school teacher and in insurance claims. In addition to her medical training, she also has a background in social work, which contributes to her compassionate and practical approach to patient care.
Dr. Portier is married to William L. Portier, PhD, who holds the Mary Ann Spearin Chair of Theology at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.
